Nils Schweckendiek in YLE Areena

“Three countries have shaped my life,” says Nils Schweckendiek, a choir and orchestra conductor who was born in Germany, grew up in England, and has lived in Finland for 25 years. The professor of choral conducting at the Sibelius Academy conducts the Musiikkitalo choir and the Helsinki Chamber Choir, which consists of professional singers.

In recognition of his achievements in promoting diversity and renewal in Finnish choral music, the Finnish Composers’ Association awarded Schweckendiek the Madetoja Prize on October 15, 2025. Nils Schweckendieck is interviewed by Outi Paananen, and the program features music conducted by Nils Schweckendieck.
