The choir
The Music Centre Choir is a symphonic choir of aboat 130 singers that can also be transformed into a male or a female choir if necessary. The Choir collaborates with all the main partners of the Music Centre, the Helsinki City Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Sibelius Academy of the Uniarts. The Artistic director of the choir is Professor of Choral Conducting Nils Schweckendiek. The choir was founded in 2011.
The choir’s repertoire consists of symphonic choral and orchestral works, complemented by a cappella works for a large choir. The repertoire covers all musical eras, including music of our own time. The programme is planned on a long-term basis in collaboration with the Music Centre’s main partners. The choir performs eight to ten times a year, mainly in the concert hall of the Music Centre, but also elsewhere.
For the 2024 – 2025 season, the choir’s repertoire will include Haydn’s The Creation, Mahler’s 2nd and Requiem by Duruflé.
